The horse I lease has pretty high withers, and I think my saddle is causing him some discomfort. I've been riding him in a bareback pad alot lately and he seems much happier and more willing to move out. But, one can not show hunters in a bareback pad ( Read more... )

Anyone have experience with the newer Pariani saddles? I know they are 'fancier' M. Toulouses, and that's about it. I know of a saddler who's got them at a VERY good sale/clearance rate, and was wondering if they'd be worth a look. Specifically I'm looking at the Regina, Allegra DL, and Lucia II (ETA: also Donato Event) models.

I play for my university's polo team, and we have an assortment of donated tack (and ponies!). Some of it is in better condition than others. I have a really old Pariani hunt seat saddle for sale that doesn't have any size info on it, and I don't have a horse to fit it to either! Is there a way to determine a saddle's tree size without either a) measuring the horse it's supposed to fit or b) determining it from the manufacturer's stamp? I'm looking at a Beval Natural on eBay, and the seller put up the serial number of the saddle: 16M F 43295. I am working with an OTTB, Thunder. Being such, he needs what I would guess a narrow to narrow-med saddle. Looks like this year I'll be buying a used saddle with my tax refund... My barn owner/boss/horse's trainer was amazed that I still have my first "real" saddle from about 17 years ago.
